Sexual Immorality is Sexual Immorality

Sexual Immorality is Sexual Immorality

When it comes to dealing with matters regarding sexual morality these days, most of the attention is centered around the issue of homosexuality and transgenderism. But truly, that represents only a tiny portion of the sexual immorality that exists in our modern world. In some ways, it is almost as if by focusing on that tiny, yet dramatic, segment of the population, the vast majority of it stays hidden.

OutKick.com is aĀ  conservative sports and news website founded by Clay Travis in 2011. It was originally called OutKick the Coverage and was focused mostly on sports. It has since expanded, however, to cover the culture and politics, and is intended to be an alternative to mainstream sports and news media, which Travis describes as serving the "elite, left-leaning minority."

Recently, they posted an article entitled ā€œBride Let Her Husband Sleep with A Bridesmaid on Their Wedding Night.ā€ While this might seem a bit extreme to most people, apparently not so for this couple. They were already into the swinging lifestyle. In fact, they even have a couple they met on a swingerā€™s retreat that they occasionally swap partners with. So inviting a third person into their bedroom on their wedding night was, to them, a natural happening. Even more so since the bridesmaid was the brideā€™s best friend, which made it ā€œvery comfortable.ā€

Of course, the swinging scene also represents a relatively small segment of the population, but it does move us into the arena of heterosexual sexual immorality. But even that is rather dramatic and, once again, takes our attention away from the more ā€œmundaneā€ sexual immorality that is so prominent in modern society.

It is estimated that 12% of all websites on the internet are porn sites, and that 69% of American men and 40% of American women view pornography in any given year. Beyond that, surveys have indicated that 12% of men and 7% of women admit to committing adultery. Further, between 3% to 7% of the population live together outside of marriage. And an even more telling statistic is that 95% of the population have engaged in premarital sex.

But letā€™s look at this in a different way. When was that last time you went to a movie that was not a kidā€™s movie, or one expressly made for a family audience, and extramarital sex was not assumed to be normal? It has been totally normalized. And the same is true with television. Sexual immorality is, literally, the norm in modern society. And it is so pervasive in society at large, that most people donā€™t even consider it to be immorality at all.

But based on biblical teachings, it is not normal. While sex may be a ā€œnatural act, when it is practiced outside of a marriage relationship between one man and one woman, it is not a ā€œnormalā€ act.

In Godā€™s economy, relationships are sacred, and engaging them in a trivial fashion is a perversion. The original relationship is the relationship God has within His trinitarian existence. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit comprise a single being, but exist as three distinct centers of consciousness ā€“ they are three persons. That doesnā€™t even make sense based on our material existence. But God is not confined to material reality, and is not bound by its natural laws. Personal, intimate relationships existed in Him before man ever existed.

When God created mankind, He created us in His image, meaning we also have the capacity for self-conscious personal relationships. However, we are not eternal beings like God. As mortal beings confined to a natural universe, we donā€™t have the capacity to engage our relationships in the same way God does.

Beyond that, while we do have the capacity to enjoy self-conscious relationships with other human individuals, God provided for a special kind of relationship between a man and a woman that takes the intimacy to an entirely different level ā€“ one that is more spiritually profound. When a man and woman enter into a marriage relationship, they enter into a covenant that makes them to be ā€œone fleshā€ (Genesis 2:24). This is Godā€™s ideal, and to operate outside of those parameters is a perversion of Godā€™s purpose for mankind.

There are not degrees of sexual immorality, and, in Godā€™s eyes, one sin is not worse than another. Every sin takes a person out of a relationship with God and, if a person wants to know eternal life, must be atoned for based on the sacrificial death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. So, when we sin, whether it be something humans consider horrible, like murder, or something many consider benign, like sexual immorality, it is a relationship killer.

If we care at all about God ā€“ if we love Him ā€“ we will live in a relationship with Him by conforming our lives to what He has revealed to be His will. And that certainly includes what He has revealed about sexual morality.
