What Would You Think If ...?

What would you think if your state legislature mandated that every one of the teachers in your state must adopt progressive political orthodoxy and teach it to their students? And what would you think if the penalty for noncompliance was for the teachers to lose their teaching license?

This may seem like something out of some dystopian novel, but that mandate is now being actively promoted in the Illinois legislature. Teachers would be required to:

1) endorse the idea that America is systemically racist,
2) affirm the gender identities of any of their students,
3) affirm gender complexity (that there are many genders), and
4) affirm gender fluidity (that people can change genders based on how they feel).

Additionally, teachers would have to be willing to lead their students in leftist political protests and lobbying. Beyond that, they would be encouraged to consider grading their students on their social justice activism rather than on their performance related to ordinary school work.

This is, indeed, very radical stuff. But you need to be aware that this push is not limited to Illinois. There are people pushing this agenda throughout the entire country.

So, what are we to think? Well, let’s just be blunt: This entire agenda is a lie, and does not reflect reality.

1) America is not systemically racist. There are, certainly, racists in America (of all races), but the country itself is not racist. A country is not a consciously aware entity and can’t be racist. It is individuals who are able to be racist, and the solution to racism is not based on any kind of collectivist ideology like what is being proposed in Illinois. It is an individual problem that can only be addressed based on an individual solution.

2) Children who believe they are a different gender from their biological sex have a psychological problem and need to be helped. They are not living in reality.

3) There are only two genders – male and female. There is no distinction between a person’s sex and their gender – and it is determined by their DNA.

4) Gender cannot be changed. Even a sex change operation does not change a person’s DNA.

What we are witnessing here is a form of religious zealotry. Of course, most of the people promoting this agenda would emphatically deny that. In fact, a majority of these people are probably self-identified Atheists. But that does not keep them from being religious zealots. You see, their naturalistic beliefs are based on a faith dogma – the belief that the natural universe, operating by natural laws, is all that exists. If that is indeed the case, then there is no such thing as any kind of objective moral standard because there is no possible objective moral law giver. As such, human beings have no choice but to make up their own morality – and the ones who are able to gain power and impose their will are the ones who get to make up the rules for society.

However, if there is such a thing as objective morality, as Christianity teaches, it would necessarily be expressed by rules that apply to everyone in every situation. And that belief represents the worldview assumptions America was founded upon.

What we see now, though, is an attempt to destroy our Christian foundation and replace it with Naturalism’s relativistic philosophy – a philosophy where people must live by the law of the jungle, and where there are no moral restrictions as to what kinds of tactics can be used to defeat one’s “enemy.” This entire naturalistic foundation is a lie, and there is only one way to defeat it – with the truth.

I grew up in a time when people were advised that it is best not to talk about religion and politics. Based on naturalistic philosophy, however, that is impossible. With Naturalism, those kinds of distinctions don’t exist because religion and politics are one and the same. For them, you can no more separate them from everyday life than you can separate the two sides of the same coin.

Beyond that, anyone who does not adhere to their beliefs is considered a heretic. Christians used to be able to avoid those kinds of conversations if they wanted to, but now it is virtually impossible. When EVERYTHING is political based on a religious ideology, EVERYTHING you talk about has to be seen in political terms. Of course, that kind of belief is not true, but that is what they believe, and we live in a world where that belief is prominent.

So what are we, as Christians, to do? What we must do is to stand up and share our beliefs with the same vigor as those pushing their atheistic Naturalism – and we have to do it by talking about religion and politics. What is required is to boldly express the truth about Jesus Christ in the face of the lies. There is no other way to overcome them.
