So Much Confusion

So Much Confusion

There are people who would call me insensitive (or worse) because I express biblical worldview beliefs about people who self-identify as transgender. A transgendered person is one whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond to their sex at birth (or some would say the sex they were “assigned at birth”). In other words, transgendered people are those who were born male, but personally identify as female, and vice versa.

The hard fact is, a person’s gender is an objective reality. People who are born male have certain physiological characteristics that make them male, no matter how they self-identify – and it is the same with females. Those who are objectively one particular gender but for whatever reason “feel” they should be something else, have a psychological problem that needs to be addressed. Their feelings are at odds with the actual reality of their life.

But that objective viewpoint is not the perspective of popular culture. For whatever reason, enough people have bought into the idea that a person’s personal sense of gender identity should govern their existence, that anyone who thinks differently is now shamed, or assaulted in various other ways.

In fact, the acceptance of transgenderism has become so commonplace these days, that some government jurisdictions have actually enacted laws that recognize it as normal. For instance, in California, Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed into law a provision requiring transgender prison inmates to be housed based on their gender identity. What that means is that women can now be housed in men’s prisons, and men in women’s prisons. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Many people, particularly atheistic Naturalists, often accuse Christians of being science deniers. But what we have here is a situation where those who promote transgenderism are the ones who are the science deniers. Objectively speaking, men are men and women are women. A biblical worldview recognizes this objective reality. Naturalistic philosophy brushes it aside.

Interestingly though, Naturalism is based on the belief that the natural universe is all that exists, and that everything, in every part of reality, can ultimately be objectively known based on the laws of nature. Well, the laws of nature identify human beings as either male or female based on their DNA. There is no place at all for a sexual identity that does not correspond to a person’s biological sex.

But besides Naturalism’s insistence that natural reality is the only reality that exists, it also has no basis for objective moral truth. After all, objective moral truth requires an objectively real moral law giver, which they assert absolutely does not exist.

With those two concepts considered to be unbreakable principles, Naturalism is left in a bind. Naturalists have to deal with a natural world that requires objective truth, and a moral world where objective truth cannot exist. And when the physical and moral worlds collide, which they must, Naturalists have to make a choice – one has to go. And for most of them, it is objective truth that gets the boot.
